ValkScreenVision 2.0 celebrates its 10th anniversary!

In 2015, we took an important step in the development of screen systems: the introduction of ValkScreenVision 2.0. This innovative screen system was designed to make screen cloth retraction faster, easier and more efficient than ever.

Now, 10 years later, we proudly look back on the development of ValkScreenVision 2.0. We owe this milestone to the trust of customers, the commitment of our partners and the continuous drive to keep innovating.

2011: Back to the beginning...

In 2011, we installed our first screen installation where the screen cloth was confected on-site and directly retracted. This installation, the Quattro Plus, was our first retractable screen variant and was the precursor to today's ValkScreenVision 2.0. Although we learned a lot from the Quattro Plus, it did not prove to be completely future-proof. That motivated us to continue innovating. In 2015, we took the next step....

2015: ValkScreenProfile VSV designed

We had a clear goal: to work more efficiently by doing all the preparations ourselves and only retracting the screen cloth on-site. This idea led to a new profile design. To name this profile, we organized a competition. Aligning with our vision, the name ValkScreenVision was created, leading to the ValkScreenProfile VSV.

2015: ValkDelta retraction tool

For precise and optimal installation of screen cloths, we developed the ValkDelta retraction tool. This kite, in the shape of a distinctive red triangle, retracts the screen fabric tension-free at full width and prevents unwanted folds.

2016: Entry pieces designed

Our field experiences gave us new ideas. Some things could be done much smarter and easier. Where we previously had to mount the outer pieces of 1.60m screen profile afterwards, the new entry pieces allowed us to neatly assemble everything in one go.

2017: Additional cloth processing with a head strip for faster lane changes

Originally, the screen cloth was attached to the ValkDelta with a loose strip and hook, which took a lot of time. To speed this up, we came up with a smart solution: the head strip is now confected at the cloth in our factory. This way, the attachment on-site fastening is completed in less than a minute, allowing the installation crew to install many more screen cloths per day.

2018: Adjusting cloth confection machine for multi-layer cloth confection

We adjusted our cloth confection machine specifically for the confection of multi-layer cloths. While cloth clips struggled to clamp due to the thickness of the screen cloth, this is not an issue for the retractable screen. In 2021, we took it a step further with the production of three-layer cloths.

2019: Dilatation designed for screen sections wider than 100 m

The expansion and contraction of both the greenhouse and the screen cloth made installing screen cloths longer than 100 meters a challenge. With our new dilatation coupling, it is now possible for screen cloths wider than 100 meters to function smoothly. Additionally, the coupling serves as an entry and exit piece when retracting the screen cloth.

2020: Profile designed with two cloth chambers for flat cloth hang down

With double screens, the screen cloth of the upper installation is often hung flat at the point of the cloth hang down due to lack of space to accommodate contraction of the screen cloth. Our new screen profile, with two cloth chambers, provides the solution. The last ±1.5 meters can now be executed with a double layer of screen cloth, neatly accommodating the cloth contraction.

2022: Removable profile designed for retracting long screen cloth lanes

Screen installations wider than 100 meters used to require a piece of profile to be cut away after retracting the cloth, posing a risk of damage. Our solution? A removable screen profile! This profile is mounted during installation and easily dismantled after retracting, without causing any damage to the cloth.

2025: VSV intermediate profile

And we continue to innovate... There’s a new product again! With the development of the ValkScreenVision intermediate profile, we can now mount two one after the other screen installations on one wire bed. Developments in horticulture never stand still, which is why we keep responding to the rapidly changing sector.

The first country where ValkScreenVision 2.0 was installed was Canada.

ValkScreenVision 2.0 is very quick: the screen fabrics are pre-fitted with guide strips, which are pulled directly into the profile during cloth retraction.

ValkScreenVision 2.0 can be supplied with any cloth type and by any screen installer, making the screen system very flexible.

The most unique location where ValkScreenVision 2.0 was installed is Saudi Arabia. There, a city is being built in a desert.

ValkScreenVision 2.0 is very safe: given that it minimises the need to move between the crop and work at a height to insert or replace the cloth, it becomes a lot safer.

Unique to ValkScreenVision 2.0 is the red ValkDelta. This kite retracts the screen fabric tension-free at full width and prevents folds.

The furthest country in which ValkScreenVision 2.0 was installed is Australia.

The biggest project so far is one of 36 hectares. This project is located in Canada.

The most challenging project was providing a three-layer cloth with a cloth strip. A cloth usually can't be clipped due too much cloth. It has now succeeded with the strip.

ValkScreenVision 2.0 is also clean: with this system, insertion can also be postponed, allowing the screen cloths to remain cleaner from construction dust. This can lead to consistent light gains of up to 1% each day.
